A petition to urge the UN to adopt September 1st as the Memorial Day for the Massacre of Political prisoners
 

  The undersigned hereby support the adoption by the United Nations of a day of commemoration each September 1st to acknowledge the bravery and sacrifice of political prisoners, freedom fighters and prisoners of conscience who were executed or massacred by their governments. 

A similar resolution sponsored by MEHR the Southern Regional Meeting of Amnesty International (10/2/02) was finally adopted  in the Annual General Meeting of the Amnesty International in April 2003
