A petition to urge the UN to adopt September 1st as the Memorial Day for the Massacre of Political prisoners
 

  The undersigned hereby support the adoption by the United Nations of a day of commemoration each September 1^st to acknowledge the bravery and sacrifice of political prisoners, freedom fighters and prisoners of conscience who were executed or massacred by their governments. 

A similar resolution has already been approved at the Southern Regional Meeting of Amnesty International and would be adopted if passed in the Annual General Meeting of the Amnesty International in April 2003
